Welcome to the Real Parenting Ambassador Training Programme.
The purpose of the Real Parenting course is to equip you as an Ambassador to run workshops for parents. It is based on the Spurgeons Parent Support Course model which has been developed over the years and has transformed the lives of many families. It teaches parents the skills needed to:
You may already have experience running groups. If not, don’t worry, the material in this course has been in group settings, in individual homes and even over the internet. Each week covers two parenting skills and is a combination of:
Here is a video to give you some ideas on how to run a group.
Establish right from the first session that the privacy of the members of the group is paramount. Members are not to try to find out where other members live, or where their children go to school.
Also different parents are likely to have differing parental styles. We are all here to learn and we need to encourage and support each other as a group, not to be critical of other parents who we might think are too strict, or not strict enough etc.
The Ambassador’s Handbook is designed to be used alongside the training contents of this website.
It contains advice on preparing for, and running, the Real Parenting workshops, including recommended times for each part of the sessions.
The Parenting Workbook is designed to be printed off by the Ambassador and handed out to participants at the beginning of the course.
As well as help and advice for parents it contains material to help parents with assignments in between sessions.
In our experience, parents often lose or forget their workbooks so we have included easy to download sections throughout this website, so that you can quickly and easily download just the relevant bits for that particular session.
We recommend that you familiarise yourself with the Parenting Workbook before you begin your first session.
Also, on page 3 you will find an area where you can fill in the contact details of useful further resource agencies in your area. We recommend that you write these in before handing out the Workbook to parents.
